Significantly lighter than steel cable, synthetic rope doesn’t store as much energy as steel cable, meaning it won’t become as much of a projectile if it breaks.

If you are converting your steel cable winch to synthetic rope, first ensure that it is compatible with synthetic rope. Some manufacturers have different drums or brake configurations to ensure that heat does not transfer to the rope. You will also need to change the old roller fairlead for a “Hawse” fairlead, we have a number of them in stock here:

These smaller diameter synthetic ropes are likely to be fitted to a smaller winch so ensure that the hawse you choose is the right width. It should have a slot no wider than the gap between the drum flanges.
